2008 Support Person of the Year

Award Recipient
Hakeem Oliver

Comet Man

Mason High School teacher, Hakim Oliver, is the 2008 recipient of the Jennifer Leigh Kynkor Foundation Support Person of the Year Award, and we could not ask for a more deserving young man. For 2 years, Hakim has supported Greg Miller, a Mason H.S. sophomore, who is also known as "Comet Man," Mason's mascot. Hakim was himself a mascot for Loveland City Schools and later Bowling Green State University. He approached Mason City Schools and persuaded them to create a mascot, quickly picked Greg, then set about "teaching him the ropes." All the while, he supported Greg at basketball and football games. Hakim's patient and flexible manner allowed Greg to learn what it was like to dress up as Comet Man then to cheer on some very large Mason crowds. This year, Greg received his varsity letter and pin...a huge event in his life, and further acknowledgement that he has been accepted by his school and his community in his new role. Thank you, Hakim, for setting such a fine example and for your efforts on behalf of all the young men and women you come in contact with in your roles as teacher, coach and mentor.

2006 Support Person of the Year.

Award Recipient
Mark Brasington

Autism is an emerging medical condition of nearly epidemic proportions. Much is yet to be understood about this highly complex medical condition, which targets our young children in a way that affects them and their families for the rest of their lives. The Jennifer L. Kynkor Foundation supports The Autism Society of Greater Cincinnati, and all their efforts. Jenny's contributions, both financial and otherwise to the cause of Autism, led to an annual award in her honor:

The Jennifer L. Kynkor Support Person of the Year.
The annual award is presented at the ASGC's yearly meeting
